MEDICAL CODING

Roles & Responsibility of medical Coding

The process of assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to patient medical records is known as medical coding. It is a crucial component of the healthcare system because it makes it easier for healthcare practitioners to receive accurate remuneration for the services they offer. To effectively assign codes to patient records, medical coders must have a solid comprehension of the coding system and medical jargon. Medical coders work to guarantee that healthcare practitioners are fairly compensated for their services by accurately assigning codes. Furthermore, precise coding contributes to the timely and effective processing of claims. Medical coding is essential for both research and the accurate tracking of healthcare statistics.

Types of Medical Coding:

1. ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification): This is the coding system used for coding diagnoses and is published by the World Health Organization.

2. CPT (Current Procedural Terminology): This is the coding system used for coding procedures and is published by the American Medical Association.

3. HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System): This is the coding system used for coding supplies and is published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

4. DRG (Diagnosis Related Group): This is the coding system used for coding hospitalizations and is published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

ICD-10 Code 149.9- Cardiac Arrhythmia:- An irregular heartbeat is referred to as a heart arrhythmia (uh-RITH-me-uh). When the electrical signals that control how often the heart beats are coordinated improperly, heart rhythm issues (heart arrhythmias) result. The heart beats excessively quickly (tachycardia), too slowly (bradycardia), or irregularly as a result of the poor signalling.

Heart arrhythmias, which may be completely safe, sometimes feel like your heart is speeding or fluttering. However, some heart rhythms can result in unwelcome — and perhaps even life-threatening — symptoms. However, occasionally having a fast or sluggish heart rate is natural. For instance, the heart rate may rise during physical activity or fall during sleep.
